about

The Scientist tells the story of the divide between Romanticism and Classicism. Too afraid to leave the certainty of her life, Classicism thrives in her tower of restraint, order, and reason. But Romanticism, ever revelling in his imagination and strong emotion, is taken by her beauty, and tries in vain to reconcile their innate opposition.

lyrics

In the gloom she sits and ponders her choices
Mulls over figures, mulls over questions
In which numbers caress her crammed mind
And she can’t draw a line in the sand
To separate the two distant lands of science and love

The Romantic hero is dazzled by the blaze of sun
That glistens in the hair of the scientific one
Who can’t seem to detach her heart and power of intellect
I would collect one million memories with you
If only you’d care for the world that thrives outside
Your ivory tower surrounded by flowers
Betraying a beauty no man can reach
No man can reach

Confined by data, with never an answer
For how to escape, yet how to stay
In the fortress of logic protecting her mind
And she struggles to maintain her grip
Afraid that she’ll slip into lands that aren’t ruled by numbers

The Romantic hero is dazzled by the blaze of sun
That glistens in the hair of the scientific one
Who can’t seem to detach her heart and power of intellect
I would collect one million memories with you
If only you’d care for the world that thrives outside
Your ivory tower surrounded by flowers
Betraying a beauty no man can reach
No man can reach

Fall... fall... fall into my arms, he shouted!

Let your mind wander away, at least for today

I need you to smile at me
I need you to touch me
And know the warmth that comes not from numbers
Numbers on paper
But the look in your eyes when the morning birds cry
For love’s first sunrise

By the window she stands surveying her hands
Afraid to escape, afraid to find answers
That her logical mind can’t comprehend
So she’ll stand there forever afraid
That there’ll be nowhere else she can feel safe at the end of the day

The Romantic hero is dazzled by the blaze of sun
That glistens in the hair of the scientific one
Who can’t seem to detach her heart and power of intellect
I would collect one million memories with you
If only you’d care for the world that thrives outside
Your ivory tower surrounded by flowers
Betraying a beauty no man can reach
No man can reach
